Eight Logo Techniques Compared: Debossing, Foil, Screen, Laser and Embroidery

Debossing is the cheapest and most durable option, suited to PU and genuine leather, with a minimum stroke of about 0.6 mm; it reads as understated quality on dark leather. Gold and silver foil give strong contrast on dark surfaces and are the most popular choice for jewellery brands, but fine strokes can clog — keep lines above 0.3 mm and always sample first. Silk screen suits large colour areas, with cost rising per colour and best results on light bases. Laser engraving offers the highest precision including gradients and fine textures, leaves a lighter mark on dark PU, consumes no materials and works well for small runs and personalisation. Embroidery is used on velvet and canvas for a three-dimensional look at a higher cost, but is unsuitable for small text. Heat transfer and pad printing handle curved or irregular surfaces, while gravure, embossing and colour printing are normally used for the accompanying paper boxes. Practical guidance: dark leather → foil or laser; light leather → debossing or screen; velvet → embroidery; paper box → colour printing.
